Udacity and Citi announces Scholarship to help increase opportunities for underrepresented communities
In this technocratic world where information of the many is
held by a few, the need for equality in representation becomes the need of the
hour. The rise of technology witnessed by the 21st Century also
witnessed the racial underrepresentation of many. While technology is forcing
us to break the shackles of the past that weighed down on us for centuries and
embrace the world where nothing matters other than one’s skills and personality,
and where innovation is the ultimate goal, the reality is contradictory and
disheartening. Google’s report on the breakdown of gender and racial workforce
in 2014 claimed that out of 50,000 employees, 30% were Asian, 60% were White.
Just 1.9% Black and 2.9% Latino. As of May 2020, only 5.9% of Google’s
contractors and employees were Latino, and 3.7% were Black.
Udacity and Citi Scholarship
In this situation like a breath of new hope, Udacity and
Citi have announced a scholarship for Programming and Web Development to assist
the underrepresented communities in increasing educational and professional
opportunities in the sector of technology. The scholarship aims to provide
members of Black and Latinx communities opportunities to create family-sustaining
and generational wealth while disrupting the status quo.
